Art Journal Page - Close Your Eyes...

... Open Your Mind :)

Let me start off by saying I had great fun with this page, with the colours and the layering. I love experimenting with different styles in my art journal and it is fast becoming my favourite 'place to be'.

I'm Guest Designing this week again for Not Just Card Challenges, the theme here for every challenge, every week, is Anything Goes. So whatever you've made this week you can show it off here :)

This lovely image came from Digital Stamps For Joy

I played with my Distress Paints again for this page - I do LURVE them, loads! Letraset markers were used on her, but I have a set of 72 Copics on the way (courtesy if the Amazon mega sale they had recently) and I cannot wait for them to turn up.

The background stencil is by Prima, the 6x6 size, and I used White Picket Distress Paint to create that beautiful pattern.

I wanted to make it look as if light was filtering through on to her, with the flowers floating in the background being part of her open mind. I do have such a weakness for blues and greens together.
Why the saying blue and green should never be seen is completely beyond me, it's one of the most fabulous combos!

Once the page was complete, I used Distress Ink in Vintage Photo to go around the edges to draw the eye in.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day and that you can find some inspiration amongst the wonderfulness of the Design Team at Not Just Cards Challenges.

Some more exciting news... :)

Hello one and all... :)

I do have some more lovely news to share and a very quick Christmas card.

The lovely news is that.... I'm now a Design Team Member for ScrapbookerPHD!!! :)

Suuuuper excited about this new adventure and although I officially start in January, I was asked if I wanted to do something midway through their current challenge Christmas Critters.

I don't like to disappoint :) so here is the card I've made:

It was done very last minute, but it is so easy and so quick to make with this Sizzix Die by Dena Designs Owl No. 2.

I used Graphic 45 double sided paper from French Country, so the reverse of the paper matched perfectly for the beak, eyes and wings. I chose this sheet as the red with gold text seemed chrstmassy to me without being overly so. I edged everything with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Then... :) I made him a little santa hat and used some 'puffing paint' not sure on it's official name, but that's what it gets called here ;)

So, if you get five minutes please hop over, show some blog love and check out the challenge, the prize is:

"Stamp Academy is the place to learn new and exciting ideas for  your Paper Crafting supplies!  All classes have full VIDEO and PDF instruction.  The Project Parades even have a complete supply list of products used.

Whether you’re into Rubber Stamping, Techniques, Scrapbooking, or Paper Crafting – we have lots of options for you to choose from so take a look around and Get Started today!

Class for the Winner:
Here’s the description for Mini Books Class"

I'm sure you'll agree, that's a pretty cool prize to be won, right?! :)

Anyway I must run, I promise to catch up with everyone over the weekend at some point, but for now I have a mountain of presses to wrap for my little one, and a glass of chocolate Baileys to compliment my cold - lol

Take care

Summer Memories...

We're surrounded by beautiful festive decorations and twinkling lights.  Getting pressies wrapped and enjoying the glow and warmth of a log fire. ... ahhh doesn't summer feel like it was an age a go now?

So I thought I'd take a trip back to our summer hols, and more importantly, Isaac's first holiday! :)

After seeing WOW's challenge 'Memories', I knew I wanted to go back to those moments specifically. They felt... perfect. Seeing how much he fell in love with the sea, building sand castles and an ice cream a day... well, that was him sold!! Not just him, the dogs had a blast too.

Anyway, I digress........ Please take a nosy if you feel so inclined :)

I use some Tim Holtz Distress Paints, in Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers and Black Soot. I dabbed the paint randomly, then sprayed water with a mini mister - I really love some of the colour blends that came from this.

I next used some Tattered Angels in Autumn Nights whilst the background was semi wet so the paint wicked slightly, then I dried the piece and flicked some more.

After drying, I used an embossing pen and roughly half circled the darker flicks and used a black embossing powder. Once that was done I wanted to create a wave like movement, so back with the embossing pen and and some white embossing powder.

Then the rest came together, I used some bits from Prima Seashore 12x12 collection

(Sorry couldn't get a good close pic without getting a shadow)

I'm going to now put my feet up, have a lemsip and try to shake this awful cold :0) Sorry if the page doesn't read entirely right or there are spelling mistakes, my head is pretty foggy.

Thanks for stopping by

Chase the wind... Digi Art Journal Page

Good Morning! :)

A little while a go I approached Not Just Cards Challenges with regards to their DT and Guest DT call and asked if I could have a go as a Guest Designer, I've been wanting to push myself to do something like this for awhile, so I gathered some courage and sent the email off. You cannot belieeeeve how thrilled I was when Zoe said yes. :)

Here's what I created:

And here was the image I was given for this week:

This digi by is Aurora Wings and can be found here on Etsy.

As someone fairly new to the world of digis, my mouth dropped when I saw her... the picture is stunning, my mind was just wondering how in the world am I going to be able to do this piece justice?! It looks so complicated. But, I love a challenge, and I was determined to get her into my art journal... somehow! Where there's a will and all that :)

I've recently been having great fun with my art journal, messing around with paints, pens and... gel medium. Can you see where I'm going with this?

I figured, heck, why should digis always be clean and simple and put on cards. If I was using a rubber stamp image it would get some pretty heavy handed treatment! Soooooo, that is what I did.

Firstly, I rendered her hair and skin only, using letraset pens. (I wanted some of the background colour to come through.

I created my background on my Art Journal Page using Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean and Picket Fence Distress Paint. The Picket Fence was used to shade the area where her face would be and was put through The Crafters Workshop Tiny Circles stencil.

Using gel medium I transferred the image to my journal, but I split the image in half, having the butterflies and flowers on the other side of the page.

Once she was in I applied another layer of gel medium over the top and set about fixing any mistakes that I wasn't happy with.

Now the really fun part... I broke out my Faber Castell Big Brush Pitt Markers and started shading the flowers, building up the intensity of colours. I also went back over the hair in some places to concentrate the shadows with a dark brown, and add some more colour with the sepia tint.

I added some shading with blue around the face to ground the image.

Then it's a case of repeating with the other side. Once all this was done I went back over with the stencil and Salty Ocean Distress Paint, careful to avoid the image.

I didn't want to do too much else to the page as the picture is very detailed. So all that was left was some wording. It took me awhile to get inspiration for a title, but after watching Brave for over the hundredth time, the words from the song in there hit me. It was a pure lightbulb moment and seemed a perfect fit. :)

(By the way the watching of Brave is down to my two and half year old, I swear he's in love!)

My trusty white gel pen was next and the page took a hit with that too, just finish it off.

The only thing that I feel that has really nagged at me is the hairline, but heyho, this is an art journal and there's no such thing as a perfect art journal, right? ;)

So there you have it, and if you have stayed with my ramblings for so long then a huge pat on the back is in order! :)

Don't forget to enter your crafty creations in the Not Just Cards Challenges, the theme is always Anything Goes, and really it can be anything you've created, not restricted at all, which is very refreshing!

Hehe, hope you all have a lovely day.

Wedding/Planner Mini Album

Finally completed my second one - big yay!

This is for two very lovely people in my family who are getting married very soon, in fact in19 days time! The're getting married abroad but will be having a wedding party in the late spring early summer. So... this album is to have photos of their wedding and to help plan for the family and friends party next year too.

Like my last one this is photo heavy so I will list the basics at the top and if you wish to keep browsing then please feel free.

I used Prima Something Blue, Paper (12x12, A4, 6x6, 3x4 and 2x3), flowers, tags, etc
I used the Tim Holtz embellies (key, clock and word bands)
To create the album I followed the Mama Tutorial, which can be found here, (you tube vids) I really cannot fault this at all, this is one of the best tutorials if you're new to creating a mini album.

Again, I have a box made for this with tissue wrap on the inside to keep it a little safer.

Hope you like xx

Not sure I got the pictures in the exact order, they got a tad jumbled after the upload.

If you made it this far then thank you so much for staying and looking xxx

Mixed Media Fairy Card

Firstly, just want to say ....OH.. MY.. GOSH.... I cannot believe my tag was picked in Tim Holtz's Top Ten of November (2014). So flabbergasted (not a word I usually use but in this circumstance I feel it is warranted)!!! ;)  You would not believe my shock at seeing these sweet comments on my page, I had to double read. I keep going back now to make sure it's real.

Generally I am someone who lacks confidence in all walks of life and something like this happening is such boost, I should learn to not doubt my ability - hmm I can feel an art journal page coming on :)

Anyhoo... back to my card. :) My mum asked for one, similar to the butterfly one I did, for a friend of hers that adores fairies. Only she wanted pink/oranges thrown in too - challenge accepted!

The background was made using Tim Holtz Distress Paints (Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves and Mustard Seed) on top of dry wall tape and those little glass beads. Once coloured I used White Fire Treasure Gold to highlight all the raised areas.

After the highlighting was done I went in with lowlights and texture, with the Verra Paste in Green Gold.

This is the back, I used My Minds Eye double sided 6 x 6 paper and then the Tim Holtz Easel dies to prop it up.

Thanks for looking and have a cheery evening one and all
