Finding Beauty in the DREAMROAD

Good Morning!!

Howdy there to my latest followers, thank you for joining me on my arty journey :) and a huge hug and thank you to those who are still here with me xx

I have managed to squeeze in a little time (my son went to bed at 5:30 Friday evening!!) to have a play for a couple of challenges which I adore, Lindy's and Dusty Attic.

I took my inspiration for this piece from Elena Morgun of Sunshine Studio, she is an amazing artist and I recommend checking her blog out.

I do LOVE both of these companies, they are up there as my faves but I have a lot to do at the moment with juggling six DTs, so time to play is few and far between!

But here it is:

This will be winging it's way as a birthday surprise somewhere very soon :)

I used one of the Dusty Attic Elegant Frames and painted with Acrylic Silks in Bolivian Blue (base colour to give depth, and Wine and Roses, and Vavoom Red.

The paper is from Prima's Almanac 6x6 collection, then sprayed with Lindy's Summer Lovin' Sun, Wild Honey Suckle Coral and Pink Ladies Pink. These colours created that gorgeous warm glow for the background which I really wanted to achieve, inspired by the photo inspiration from Dusty. The blue drips were sprayed with Tibetan Poppy Teal.

This Diamond Panel from Dusty Attic was cut randomly and then painted with four blue Acrylic Silks - African Jade, Magestic Blue, Bolivian Blue, and Azurite.

The road sign is from Ingvild Blooms collection and just felt right for the dreamy and magical feel of Dusty's mood board.

The gems are from Prima's Say It In Crystals - Seashore Collection.

Some stamping and doodling to add a more 'organic' feel to the piece.

Some cheese cloth to add a little softer texture in the background, which have been sprayed with Summer Lovin' Sun and Wild Honeysuckle Coral from Lindy's.

I actually managed to use two of this month's colours - normally I have a close match but their actual colours! Yay!!

That's it from me today, and my inner artist is feeling very happy and calm at having her own time for playing :) Must let her out more often - lol!

Hugs to all,
Georgie xx

I'd like to enter this in the following challenges:
Lindy's - April colours (above)
Artful Times - A little bit of Finnabair (embellies and style from her and her team)

Love & Happiness ATC's

This post is my sneaky peek for A Sprinkle of Imagination! I have made a pair of ATCs, which will be sent to a friend in America in a swap.

I've been exploring recently with funky designs, which fit perfectly with the A Sprinkle of Imagination Shop and the supplies they sell.

Anyway, here's my peeky-peek:

I had fun playing with the exposure and contrast on this pic on iPhoto, but thought it looked rather cool, so it's the peek for this post :)

Hopefully I'll see you over there!

Frilly and Funkie - Stencil Mania

Frilly and Funkie's challenge this week, hosted by the lovely Sue, is Stencil Mania!

'Stencils are such a must have in your craft stash, so lets see them take centre stage for this challenge. The more stencils you use the better! Have fun!'

Now I have to admit when it comes to my shabbier projects I don't reach for my stencils, and when I really thought about the design, I actually got a little nervous - what on earth was I going to do?!

So... thinking about the design, instead of going for lots of stencils, my mind kept racing to the 'centre stage' and thought how about using just the one and letting just be. No covering up too much, just to let it be there, in it's own right, as a feature...

So what do you think, does this pass? :)

I loved making this card, and the initial design process. I felt really tested, and pushed myself to come up with something that still fits within the shabby chic style as well as making the stencil centre stage.

Close up of the stencilling:

I used white texture paste with the Tim Holtz stencil - Lattice Work, touched lightly over the top with gold.

These gorgeous flowers, stocked by Linda at The Funkie Junkie Boutique, are a serious favourite of mine right now. They take paints and inks so beautifully. I used Tattered Rose and Picket Fence Distress Spray and Raspberry Lemonade Magicals from Lindy's Under The Boardwalk set.

The glossy marbling on the button was done with layers of Picket Fence Distress Stain and Glossy Accents.

The one thing I layered on the stencil was the wooden fence by Kaisercraft, which took just a light dappled coating of Picket Fence Distress Paint.

The sentiment, though luck more than anything, ended looking like a little street sign on the fence. I used the Hashtag stamps by Tim Holtz and a die from his thinlits Labels set.

Lots of yummy Maja Design papers were used with some hints of Raspberry Lemonade Magicals for shading, along with some lace by Venise Lace.

The rose trim between the stencil is from Maja Designs 12 x 12 papers Autumn Basics, it's that pretty patterned little extra bit, that we don't like to see go to waste ;)

I finished up with adding some ivory pearls.

That's it for today my lovelies, and for a list of all the goodies I used please see the icons below.
Happy Wednesday,
Georgie xx

Crafty Pay It Forward!

Yay, I have finally got my derriere in gear and I have up for grabs my piece for the Crafty Pay It Forward thang I was on about a couple of months back...

The idea is if you would like to receive this please leave a comment and let me know. I will chose someone through to send it onto, then it is up to them to post something to pass on in the chain.

Please only comment if you will be willing send one of your makes on too. It doesn't matter what it is, big or small, everything is adored by a fellow crafter. :) The important thing is to see if we can keep this chain going... I love for it to end up all over the world. You don't have to use a random thingy either, it really is just about keeping going :)

So my piece is my Finnabair inspired tag, which I made as part of a DT project for A Sprinkle of Imagination:

So if you'd like to receive this then please leave a comment below and I'll give it a week before pulling out Mr Random ;)
Hugs to you all

Anything But Cute - DT Announcement :) plus post 100!!

I cannot tell you how honoured I was when Pamellia approached me and asked me to be on the DT for her own mixed media challenge blog - she is like the queen of all things beautifully arty, chic and, well... just totally spiffing gorgeous!!

I felt a little nervous when asked, but I couldn't say no, ya know? It would be like not accepting a good ol' cuppa with the Queen (or something like that), but nerves aside, I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited to be on her team and we have some majorly exciting challenges coming up.

Here is some info about the style of our challenge blog:
Anything But Cute is a brand new mixed media challenge blog with a new challenge starting on the 5th day of every month at 7:00 am EST.
We welcome all types of crafts. Cards, journal pages, scrapbook pages, 3D crafts, canvas art, altered items and any other handmade paper or mixed media arts. We encourage crafters of all skill levels and styles - shabby chic, grunge, vintage, elegant, stylish, retro, you name it. As our name indicates, the only style we are not showcasing - are all things cute and adorable. There must be at least one mixed media product on your project somewhere, be that paint, ink, stain, spray, paste, clay, crackle glaze...whatever tickles your fancy!
At Anything But Cute, we would love to see all you seasoned and expert mixed media artists, but we also want to encourage those of you who are just getting your feet wet. Our design team will always be on the lookout for these exceptional projects and artists. You just never know when we might be giving out something special to a mixed media beginner. We all have to start somewhere, right!
Our first challenge starts on May 5th, so let's get messy and have some fun!

Come and check back on the 20th April, to see who our next designer is. She is one amazing talent, I adore her work - you will not be disappointed!

So don't miss out, come and follow us all on Anything But Cute, it is going to be one FANTASTIC journey and we want YOU to share it with us :)

On a side note, I have hit my 100th post with this announcement, so I thought I'd post the pic with where, for the most part, the obsession began. I had some earlier posts but with this piece I entered my first challenge, which then spiralled my addiction!! And now I'm here - and a little gobsmacked! :) In a great way though.

(excuse photo quality - I was well behind the times back then) :)

Warm hugs my lovelies

Mixed Media World Challenge - Use Bright Colours

Hello Everyone!!

Haha it's been a busy weekend, lots of projects on the go. I do love to stay busy and keep my arty muscles flexed lol, but boy I have been manic!! :) Anyhoo on to today's post and it's exciting....

....This month our challenge over at Mixed Media World is 'Use Bright Colours' - how fantastic is that? I love brights, but find I can be a little out of my comfort zone sometimes, but I'm getting there... :)

I decided to do an art journal page, and I've seen these gorgeous ones with hearts and they look so striking and beautiful, I really wanted to give one a try when I heard our theme. So I set to work...

I used some lovely Dylusions sprays for the background, but didn't gesso for these as I find they can start to slide if you want to keep adding layers.

I had a go with my new 3D Gloss Gel from Prima and used the Glitter Glass in Gold Rush with the 'bubble' stencil from Tim Holtz.

I chose the sentiments from Tim Holtz's Small Talk stickers. I love meanings (hidden or otherwise), and they just fitted in perfectly with the page.

Our sponsor this month is:

Three images will be awarded to the winner.

Thank you so much for stopping by, and do hop across and check out the makes from my other talented teamies. Also, thank you for all your gorgeous comments, I read every single one and they always brighten my day.

Hoorah... A Christmas Card!!

Yes.... I have finally gotten round to my first Christmas Card!! I know, I know... I'm shocked too, especially as I didn't even do one last year at all - shamefully I bought shop ones!!

Our theme over at Crafty Gals Corner is Any Holiday, so as long as you're making something which is for a holiday season then feel free to come on over and enter your project.

So here it is, eek - my first Christmas Card of the Year....

I used Copics to colour the houses and this expanding white gel stuff which goes fluffy when heated, for the snow. That was huge amounts of fun!! :)

Our sponsor this week is:

Faery Ink
Prize: 3 Digital Images

Thank you so much for stopping by :)
